Sophomores are learning the benefits and challenges of collaborative writing. With a very large assignment coming up soon, we took the first tentative steps in working together in a way that leaves important digital tracks that prove our contribution. We'll be writing on the influence one's culture has over our view of others, the world, and perhaps most difficult to gauge, over our own self-identity.
As I continue my early-morning dissertation writing, I can't help but think of the relevance to my work on animals and animality. When advocating against violence, for compassion, the role of culture in determining who is counted amongst the protected becomes starkly clear.
