Scorned

Toni Morrison offering some hard, difficult truths.

I feel that my generation has done the children a great disservice. I'm talking about the emotional support that is not available to them any more because adults are acting out their childhoods. They are interested in self-aggrandizement, being "right," and pleasures. Everywhere, everywhere, children are the scorned people of the earth.
—Toni Morrison

This passage reminded me of all the times I and others would sit and eat while in Mysore, India. There we would be, having paid thousands of dollars and having travelled thousands of miles to pay hundreds of dollars to practice asana. We would go for food or dink, gorging ourselves beyond satiation, often tossing food into the trash. All the while, children full with unmet needs surrounded us.
